Haryana Urban local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain on Sunday urged social welfare organisations to assist in making better health facilities accessible to the people.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion of the inauguration of Cancer Care Centre started jointly by Cygnus Group and Apollo Hospital on the campus of Cygnus JK Hindu Hospital, Industrial Area, in Sonipat, she said cancer does not affect only the patient, but also causes psychological trauma to the whole family.

She said that many factors present in the surroundings lead to increase in possibility of cancer, and the lack of awareness and drastic changes in lifestyle and eating habits are resulting in increase in number of cancer patients.

The Minister said that the Central and State Governments are deeply concerned about the rising number of cancer cases in the State and the country, and in this direction, work has been started on setting up a national-level cancer institute at Badhsa in district Jhajjar.

Union Health Minister, JP Nadda, and Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar lal, had recently performed ‘Bhoomi pujan’ of the 700-bedded institute, to be built at a cost of crores of rupees.

She added that the Haryana Government is taking significant steps in order to enhance health facilities being provided in the State, under which it is making efforts to open a medical college in each district and upgrade Civil Hospitals to 300-bedded facilities.
