Haryana Min Anil Vij appeals to farmers to maintain peace

A day after being discharged from AIIMS New Delhi, Haryana Home and Health Minister Anil Vij on Tuesday reached his office at Civil Secretariat and held meetings with senior officers of Home, Police and Health Departments.

Vij reviewed the law and order situation in the state in view of ongoing farmers’ protest.

He also appealed to the farmers to maintain peace so that the common man does not face any problem. Calling upon the agitating farmers, Vij said that it is everyone's right to agitate, but there should not be a violent agitation because violence cannot resolve any issue.  The right to equality has been given to everyone in the Constitution, so we should not take any such action or step that violates anyone’s rights, he said.

The Home Minister’s statement came a day after a group of protesting farmers held the BJP MLA from Hisar, Kamal Gupta, hostage at a rest house there. The MLA had alleged that during the gherao by farmers, he was manhandled as the protesters tried to push him in the main hall of the rest house.

On the issue of road blockades due to farmers’ agitation, Vij said that recently, the State Government had invited leaders of farmers’ unions to hold a meeting so as to open the roads leading to Delhi from Haryana side but they had refused to attend the meeting.
