Haryana leaders to call on Prez, PM

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal on Sunday said that an all-party delegation would soon call on President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to press for early implementation of the Supreme Court decision on the Sutlej-Yamuna link (SYl) Canal issue.

Congratulating the people on the favourable SC verdict, the Chief Minister while addressing a public meeting at Beri in district Jhajjar said that the State would soon get water from the SYl Canal.

After inaugurating a number of development projects worth Rs 42 crore at Beri, the Chief Minister said that the State Government has made arrangements to ensure that the irrigation water reached right up to the tail-ends in southern Haryana. In this context, schemes costing Rs 2,500 crore have been approved, he said.

The SYl issue has been pending for about 36 years. The present BJP Government made concerted efforts and strongly pleaded the issue during the last two years as a result of which the apex court has given its decision in the interest of Haryana, he said.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that a women's college would be opened at Beri fulfilling a long pending demand of the people of the area. He also accepted various demands of the people, including those related to  roads, irrigation water, education and infrastructure.

Hailing the decision to demonetise old currency, the Chief Minister said that the common man had begun to realise that black money deposited had started coming out. This is the reason that about 86 per cent people of the nation are in favour of this decision as per a survey. A new path of development would be opened with the money coming to the Government treasury, he added,

The Chief Minister said that lot of success had been achieved in making Haryana a corruption-free State. But there is still lot to be done in this direction. Government jobs are being given in a transparent manner.  Investment worth about Rs 7 lakh crore is expected in the State, he said.

He also highlighted various schemes and programmes being implemented in the State, including gas connection to the poor, increase the old age samman allowance and other pensions and Beti Bachao-Beti Badhao programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister for Steel, Birender Singh, while referring to demonitisation, said that only 14 per cent of the currency was in the form of small notes whereas the remaining 86 per cent was in the form of big currency notes, of which only 30 per cent was available in the market and the rest was black money.

Now, with this decision of the Prime Minister, the Government would get black money worth about Rs 9 lakh crore which would be utilised for developmental activities, he said.

The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Om Prakash Dhankar said it was farsightedness of the Prime Minister to ensure that every person became part of development of the country. The Prime Minister is working to strengthen the economy of the country. Haryana — the land of Gita — has been scaling new heights of development for the last two years, he added.
