After collaborating with Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev for the promotion of yoga and ayurveda in the State, the Manohar lal Khattar Government in Haryana has now joined hands with founder of Art of living Foundation and Vyakti Vikas Kendra India, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
The BJP-led State Government on Tuesday signed a memorandum with VVKI with an aim to help the prison inmates to maintain and improve their health and reduce physical and mental stress.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Manohar lal and founder of Art of living Foundation and VVKI, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar here.
While Director General, Prisons KP Singh signed the memorandum on behalf of the State Government, apex member of VVKI Haryana, RK Sapra signed on behalf of VVKI.
Speaking on this occasion, KP Singh said as per the MOU, yoga, meditation and other programmes would be conducted with the help of VVKI for the welfare of prisoners on regular basis in all the prisons of the state for the willing jail inmates. No fee or cost would be charged for conducting these programmes, he added.
Singh said that it has been observed that the prison inmates who are under-trial or are convicted remain in great physical and mental stress due to various reasons. The situation results in mental depression and diseases as well. To alleviate this situation, yoga, meditation, sudarshan kriya and life positive discourages are extremely helpful, said he.
He further said that VVKI conducts various courses of ‘Art of living’ and has been conducting Prison Smart (Stress Management and Rehabilitation Training) courses for prison inmates successfully all over the world. This has been found to be very helpful in making the inmates accept and face the challenges in their lives, added he.
Interestingly, the BJP Government in Haryana had in 2015 signed a memorandum with Yoga Guru Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogpeeth in a bid to extensively promote ayurveda and yoga in the state.
BJP’s favorite Baba, Ramdev was also made Haryana’s brand ambassador for the promotion of yoga and ayurveda. After the collaboration, Ramdev had announced to open as many as 10,000 Yoga Training Centres in the state with the assistance of State Government so as to impart yoga training to the youth.
Another MoU was signed between the State Government and Patanjali Anusandhan Sansthan Divya Yog Mandir Trust, Haridwar, to develop World Herbal Forest in Morni at Haryana’s Panchkula district. The World Herbal Forest would be developed over an area of about 53,000 acres of land with the technical and knowledge support of Patanjali Anusandhan Sansthan.
The opposition parties, however, had slammed the Haryana Government for its tie up with Baba Ramdev. The Congress had alleged that by signing MoUs with Patanjali Yogpeeth, the BJP Government in trying to give undue favours to Baba Ramdev.
