On Gandhi Jayanti, information kiosks have been installed in all jails of Haryana.

The information kiosks will provide information to inmates about themselves such as their time left in prison, through biometric system.

Urban local Bodies Minister, Kavita Jain inaugurated one such information kiosk installed at district jail Sonipat on Monday and said that all information related to prisoners in jails would be available on the information kiosks.

It would contain such details as the date when a prisoner came to jail, the possible date of release, and time of parole taken by him, Jain said.

Any prisoner can view information about him through biometric on the computer screen and can take a print-out by paying Rs 2, she added.

Earlier, the jails in the State had been digitised. Medical and other records related to prisoners are computerised and custody certificate is now sent to the court through computer only.

The prisons in Haryana have also become completely cashless under the cashless scheme of the Government. Now, prisoners do not have cash with them.

A software had been developed to facilitate the inmates under which a prisoner could make payment in biometric manner, if he has to purchase some material from the jail canteen.
