Amid the Saradha scam row in which Trinamool Congress chief and Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, has targeted the BJP for misusing CBI, the State BJP Government has invited Banerjee to deliver a key note address in the inaugural session of a two-day workshop-cum-seminar on January 20 and 21 at Panipat.
This workshop is being organised by the Haryana Women and Child Development Department, before the launch of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” programme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22, at the same place in Panipat.
“We have invited Mamata Banerjee along with two other Chief Ministers of Gujarat and Rajsthan respectively on this occasion,” confirmed Rajiv Khosla, additional director of Public Relations & Cultural Affairs and grievances, Haryana.
Besides Banerjee, State government also invited two more women chief ministers - Anandiben Patel of Gujarat and Vasundhara Raje Scindia of Rajasthan, added Khosla. Though it is not yet confirmed whether Banerjee is coming or not but the invitation extended to her has stirred a hornet’s nest.
Khosla added that the programme is aimed at eradicating the practice of female feticide and also to improve the efficiency of delivery of welfare services to women.
The differences between the Trinamool Congress and BJP grew sour during recent lok sabha elections, when CBI, on the directions of Supreme Court, started investigating the multi-crore Saradha Ponzi fund scam that robbed several thousand small investors in West Bengal of their life’s savings. The relations between the two parties led to bitter followed by the arrest of TMC stalwart MP Kunal Kumar Ghosh.
In these circumstances, west Bengal chief minister may not attend the workshop but BJP Chief Minister’s invitation certainly takes the wind off the allegations of vindictive politics on BJP. Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar lal would present the opening remarks during the inaugural session of the workshop-cum-seminar which would begin at 9 am on January 22, 2015.
Thereafter, the Chief Ministers of Gujarat, Rajasthan and West Bengal would present their address. The Union Minister of Women and Child Development would present the concluding remarks and Minister of Women and Child Development, Haryana, would present the vote of thanks in this session.
