In a bid to give a fillip to the ambitious ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ initiative aimed at improving the skewed sex ratio in Haryana, the State Government on Tuesday signed MoUs with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) to carry out various activities.
At the event ‘Call for Action’ organized for ‘BBBP’ initiative by the State Government in Gurgaon, the MoUs were signed in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar, State ambassador for BBBP initiative Parineeti Chopra, Cabinet Ministers, among other dignitaries.
The CII and the FICCI would assist the State Government to promote BBBP initiative with a focus on PPP for gender education and health systems strengthening in the State through various initiatives from corporate and industry members. On the occasion, Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar said that the BBBP campaign is to ensure birth, survival, protection, education and empowerment of the girl child. It is imperative that the Government, institutions and the society all work together to bring gender equality and balance in the society. The Haryana Government is fully committed towards practical implementation of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign with active support of the industry, he said.
Haryana Women and Child Development Minister Kavita Jain said that the BBBP campaign would get a new direction if the corporate sector works in tandem with the Government.
On being asked about Parineeti Chopra who has been appointed as the brand ambassador of the BBBP campaign, she said that Parineeti is the daughter of Haryana and she achieved fame by sheer hard work. Everybody whether he or she is associated with sports, film or other spheres, all should be dedicated towards their work.Though officially no agreement has so far been signed with Parineeti, she has accepted to join the campaign and would work as a role model, informed Kavita Jain. She said the Haryana government has not made any payment to Chopra for the purpose, and Chopra expressed her wish to work for the campaign without charging any fee.
The State Government had on July 16 said that Parineeti was chosen for the campaign as she hailed from the State’s Ambala town. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the nationwide campaign from Haryana’s Panipat town in January to promote the cause of the girl child.
The campaign was launched from Haryana as the State has the worst sex ratio at 879 females per 1,000 males. The child sex ratio in Haryana is the worst among all the States in the country.
