Following the death of three youths during the physical test for police recruitment at Kurukshetra, allegedly due to consumption of performance-enhancing drugs, Haryana Government on Sunday said that if any candidate is found trying to take drugs during physical fitness test, the candidate would be disqualified.
Strict action would be taken against such candidates according to the rules, said Haryana Staff Selection Commission, chairman, Bharat Bhushan Bharti.
He said that for this purpose, a special team has been constituted to keep vigil on candidates and directions have been issued to depute four doctors to examine the candidates before their registration.
The Commission had already warned candidates regarding it through its notification issued on March 16, said he.
The chairman said that youth of Haryana and other States are enthusiastic to join Haryana Police. Therefore, so far 1.30 lakh candidates have participated in the physical test till July 2.
The recruitment is being conducted in a transparent manner and on the basis of merit, he added.
On the allegations that the candidates are made to run in scorching heat during the physical test, he justified that the candidates who would register themselves at 5 am, for them the running time has already been fixed upto 9 am so that they could complete their five kilometer race before the soaring heat of the sun. The candidates who would register themselves by 4 pm, the running time has been fixed upto 8 p.m. The Commission has prepared this schedule because of the prevailing warm weather, he added.
Suspected overdose of performance enhancing drugs is believed to have killed three young men who were appearing for the Haryana police's physical test in Kurukshetra for recruiting constables. All the three men in their early 20s died in the past week.
A day before, the Congress had alleged that the ongoing police recruitment in Kurukshetra and the terribly shocking events of drug abuse have proved that youth of Haryana are being pushed into intoxicant abuse by a cartel of drug mafia.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala had claimed that nearly five and a half lakh youth in Haryana applied for recruitment in Police.
Deeply saddening is the fact that three youth have already lost their lives in painful circumstances and nearly 397 young persons are under treatment in government hospital. Not only this, thousands are being treated in private hospitals and by private doctors. This proves beyond doubt that the drug trade and drug mafia rules the roost in Haryana under active protection while Khattar government refuses to wake up from its slumber, he had said.
