Haryana Govt to raise salary of agitating extension lecturers

In an attempt to mollify the agitating extension lecturers across the State, the Haryana Government on Friday announced to increase their remuneration from Rs 18,000 per month to Rs 25,000 per month.

However, the extension lecturers who are on an indefinite strike across the state since February 13 refused to withdraw their strike till they get a written assurance from the State Government in this regard. Till late Friday evening, no written assurance was given to them by the Haryana Government.

The extension lecturers under the banner of All Haryana Extension lecturers' Association had launched their state-level strike on Monday, demanding pay parity with guest faculty and other facilities.  Since their strike, students’ studies have been affected in government colleges in various districts of the state.

The striking lecturers had also submitted memorandums addressed to Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar in their respective districts, drawing the State Government’s attention towards their demands.

At present, an extension lecturer draws Rs 250 per lecture, with a cap of  Rs 18, 000 per month.

Referring to the demands of the extension lecturers, Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma on Friday said Haryana Government has decided to increase the remuneration of extension lecturers from Rs 18,000 per month to Rs 25,000 per month, thus benefitting about 3,000 such lecturers to the tune of an additional income of Rs 25.20 crore per annum by fulfilling their long standing demand.

He said that the Chief Minister Manohar lal has approved a proposal to this effect.  The Government is committed to further improve the quality of education at all levels, he added.
