Haryana Govt to act against staff not paying power bills

Haryana Government has decided to take strict action against those government employees and pensioners who do not pay electricity bills.

Asking its employees and pensions to make the payment of outstanding electricity bills at the earliest and also, adhere to the provisions of Haryana Civil Services (Government Employees’ Conduct) Rules, 2016, the State Government on Wednesday warned them of taking strict action against the defaulters.

A communiqué to this effect has been issued by the Chief Secretary to all administrative secretaries, Head of Departments, Commissioners of six divisions, Registrar of Punjab & Haryana High Court, Deputy Commissioners and Registrars of all Universities in the state.

At present, Haryana Power Discoms are reeling under heavy losses due to outstanding pending electricity bills.

The state has a notorious track record of people not paying electricity bills for years, leading to huge arrears of hundreds of crores of rupees. In the past, launching of various schemes offering incentives to pay outstanding bills, have not produced the desired result in Haryana.

The letter sent by the Chief Secretary’s office stated, “The State Government has observed that employees and pensioners are not paying their electricity bills in time which is a violation of Rule 23 of Haryana Civil Services Rules, 2016 which deals with the insolvency and habitual indebtedness.”

All the Government employees and pensioners are therefore requested to make the payments of their outstanding electricity bills at the earliest otherwise strict action will be taken against them, it stated.
