In a major decision, Haryana Government has now decided to carry out monthly tests in Government schools for continuous and comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) of students of Class I to VIII to improve learning outcome of the students and teaching in the schools.
A spokesman of the School Education Department said that for current academic session 2014-2015, in all the Government Schools in the State, monthly tests in each subject, would be conducted for all the students studying in Class I to VIII. It would be conducted by the school teachers themselves. The spokesman said that the Headmasters or Head Teachers would be responsible for ensuring the smooth conduct of these tests. The date-sheet for the monthly evaluation would be prepared in each district by the District Elementary Education Officers in consultation with their Block Elementary Education Officers. He said that while the question papers for the month of January 2015, for Classes I to V, would be prepared and sent by the Department at a centralised level to ensure uniformity, the question papers for the monthly tests to be conducted in the month of February 2015 would be prepared by the teachers themselves under the supervision of the concerned Headmasters or Head Teachers.
He said that the stress should be on assessment of the learning abilities of the students. The spokesman said that all the teachers of Government schools in the State have been requested to maintain utmost integrity in the setting of papers and in its evaluation. The spokesman announced a series of steps to rectify some anomalies which have crept in. “It has been found that while the results of Class IX in most of the schools in the districts are 100 per cent but their results in Class X Board Examinations are in the range of 30 per cent to 50 per cent which clearly shows that the evaluation in Class 9th is a farce for which Director, Secondary Education has been directed to take action separately,” he added.
