Haryana Government has decided to install Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems in all Government schools of the State.

Initially, this facility would be made available in urban schools from next year, and later, it would be extended to schools in the rural areas also. A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Manohar lal here on Tuesday to review progress of the Centrally Sponsored Schemes in Haryana.

The State Government has also planned to install solar panels on the roof-top of Government schools. Solar energy produced there would be utilised to run computers in the schools.

While reviewing the schemes, the Chief Minister stressed the need to increase the State’s own revenue rather than raising debts from other sources. He also directed constitution of a committee under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary comprising officers of the Finance Department as members, to find ways to curtail wasteful expenditure and to bring down revenue expenditure in the State.

The Chief Minister issued directions that all administrative secretaries would prepare realistic proposals before sending these to the Project Approval Board so that funds could be released by the Centre at the earliest.

He also directed them to submit list of those schemes for which funds had not been received from the Centre for the last two years so that the matter could be taken up with the Ministry concerned. He further asked them that the budget under the centrally sponsored scheme should be fully utilised to ensure that development works do not hamper.

Manohar lal said provision should be made for a separate budget for implementation of the ambitious Maha Gram Yojna to provide sewerage facility in 126 villages having a population of more than 10,000. The State Government is in process of setting up Smart Gram Authority and the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) would also be linked with it, said he.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister was apprized that under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) of the Public Health Engineering Department, target of 110 per cent had been achieved during 2016-17. Apart from this, 98 per cent of the total funds were utilised under the National River Conservation Programme during the year.

Apart from this, 19 Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) were set up in the state during 2016-17 and work on seven new STPs is in progress.

Under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) scheme of the Secondary Education Department, construction of girl’s hostel in Aarohi Model Schools is in progress. Besides, money has been deposited with HARTRON for the purchase of computers for labs.

Earlier, the Chief Minister also reviewed the centrally sponsored schemes of several other departments, including Higher Education, Health, AYUSH and Medical Education.
