Haryana Govt increases seats by 20% in colleges

Published on:

After good response of students, especially the girls towards the Government Colleges in the State, Haryana Government has increased the number of seats by upto 20 per cent in different streams in the colleges from the academic session 2016-17.

The Government is also in the process of making the attendance of students online. With this, besides the students and teachers, the parents would also have the information about the number of lectures attended by their wards. Apart from this, they would also get the academic result of the student on their registered phone numbers.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal while launching the ‘Online College Admissions System’ (OCAS) of Higher Education Department in all 108 Government Colleges, said that the increase in number of seats   in government colleges would be subject to the requirement.

He said that the Government would also take care of student-teacher ratio in these colleges so as to provide affordable quality education to the students. Special mapping has been conducted by Higher Education Department for opening new colleges in the state. The Government is working on the principle of setting up a girl’s college in a radius of every 20 kilometers, said the Chief Minister.

He said the new online system of admission would facilitate the students in a big way as the applicants could apply free of cost only through the OCAS as no Off-line mode is available for any course in government collages.

This would also provide  relief to thousands of  students from the earlier practice of standing in the queue for collecting admission forms in the colleges and then again, submitting the same to the college authorities which had resulted in a lot of inconvenience to the parents as well as the students, said he.

The Chief Minister said that besides providing quality education to students, the State Government is also laying  emphasis to provide them skill training so as to make them employable. Therefore, new skill development centres will be opened in the state where the students would be offered short term courses of three to six month duration.

A target has been fixed to provide skill development training to 1.15 lakh youth every year in Haryana, he added.

Haryana Education Minister, Ram Bilas Sharma informed that the State Government has not only increased the number of seats in government colleges but also extended the last date of admission upto August 20. The on-line admission portal has been reopened and the applicants desirous of taking admission to government colleges could register themselves at highereduhry.com.

Till date, a total number of 1,83,290 students including 97878 girls and 85412 boys have been admitted to all under graduate and post graduate courses in all government colleges in the state, he said.

To maintain proper student-teacher ratio in government colleges, especially after State Government’s decision to increase the number of seats, special recruitment drive would be conducted in the colleges, said the Minister.
