Making efforts to convert mythological river ‘Saraswati’ into reality, Haryana Government has constituted a Technical Committee to advise the Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board in technical issues related to ‘Saraswati’ revival project.
The State Government had constituted Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board (HSHDB) with an objective to initiate, promote and support research in the field of Saraswati river and also, to assist in its preservation and restoration of the mythological river.
Now, a Technical Committee under the chairmanship of scientist Dr JR Sharma has been constituted to assist HSHDB, said a spokesman of Art and Cultural Affairs Department.
He said that MR Rao, AK Gupta, representative from Geological Survey of India (expert in relevant field), representative from National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) or Regional Remote Sensing Centre (RRSC), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), representative from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), representative from Haryana Space Applications Centre (HARSAC), representative from Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology and Mukta Sharma would act as members of the Technical Committee.
Arvind Kaushik would serve as Member Secretary of the Committee, said the spokesman.
He said that the Committee would advise the Board for all technical issues as and when required and would also present its recommendations to the Board. It would also advise the Board for the technical decision in the field of Geo-Scientific, Geological, Hydrological, Glaciological, Water Technology and other technical issues pertaining to the Saraswati Heritage Project.
The tenure of the Committee would be of two years, he added.
The BJP-led Haryana Government had in 2015 decided to restore Saraswati creek from Adi Badri to Mustafabad in Yamunanagar district and set up Adi Badri Heritage Board.
The Saraswati river, considered sacred in Hindu religion, finds mention in ancient Hindu scriptures like the Rig Veda, Mahabharata, Ramayana and others, giving credence to the belief that it existed during those times.
