Amid the political slugfest between Punjab and Haryana over the Sutlej Yamuna link (SYl) canal, Haryana senior minister OP Dhankar on Monday said that the State Government is not entering into any fresh dialogue to come to an agreement with the Punjab Government on the state’s share in river waters.
“There will be no digression from our chosen path of securing implementation of the Supreme Court orders regarding construction of the SYl canal in Punjab and bringing to Haryana its rightful share in river waters,” said Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, OP Dhankar, while reacting to the statement of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on the river waters issue.
Condemning Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar for his mixed response on the contentious SYl canal issue and delaying the construction of the canal, the senior Congress leader Hooda had a day before cautioned the Haryana Government against entering into fresh talks with neighboring Punjab Government over the state’s share in river waters.
Responding to Hooda’s statement, Dhankar said that the State Government is committed to getting the SYl Canal constructed in Punjab region and getting Haryana’s fair share in river waters.
Notably, the Supreme Court had last week granted six weeks time to the Centre to explore the possibility of an amicable solution to the SYl canal dispute between neighboring states of Punjab and Haryana.
