Haryana Govt claims it is fulfilling power requirements

Facing resentment of general public and opposition parties over the unscheduled and prolonged power cuts being imposed across Haryana, the State Government on Wednesday claimed there was no gap in power supply and demand.

Haryana Power Utilities is fulfilling the current maximum requirement of 7500 MW electricity per day in the State, said an official spokesman.

He said out of this, 3256 MW electricity is being supplied from various thermal stations located in the State including two units of Khedar thermal plant, one unit of Panipat thermal plant and one unit of the Western Yamuna Canal.

The remaining 4244 MW power supply was being arranged from power plants located in other States including renewable energy resource, said he.

The spokesman further said power purchase agreements had been made with various sources from which distribution companies were capable to generate 11,085 MW electricity per day.

According to the Electricity Act and Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission guidelines, the Nigam provides affordable electricity to the consumers on the basis of merit order so that consumers have to pay the minimum price for electricity, he said.

He added that the Power Utilities are committed to provide uninterrupted power supply to its consumers.

Notably, the opposition parties-Congress and INlD-have hit out at the BJP led Haryana Government for shortage of power in the state. Faced with inconvenience due to power cuts, the people of the State have also protested against the State Government in various parts of Haryana during the past two months.
