Following public outrage over the incidents of brutal gang rapes cases in three days in Haryana, the State Government on Monday announced to centralise its women helpline number-1091 to provide 24 hours immediate response to any women in need all across the State.
At present, the helpline number 1091 is running at district level. In the new system, the calls for help would be received at a single centre to initiate immediate process for its redressal, said Chief Secretary DS Dhesi and Additional Chief Secretary, Home, SS Prasad after holding a meeting with DGP BS Sandhu on law and order situation in the State.
Talking to the mediapersons, the Chief Secretary said that culprits would be identified at the earliest and stern action as per law would be taken against guilty.
The Government is concerned about the incidents of heinous crime against women, he said.
Talking about the helpline number, SS Prasad said that complaints from all over the State would be attended on this centralised system.
The centralised system would provide integrated support and assistance to women affected by violence or any kind of need under one roof. The DGP Sandhu is constantly monitoring the heinous crime cases with the Superintendent of Police in the districts, he added.
Barely a month after a six-year-old girl was brutalised in Hisar’s Uklana, two separate incidents of rapes and brutality have shocked the State of Haryana in last three days.
In the first case, a 15-year-old school student was brutally assaulted and her private parts were mutiliated. The other case involves alleged rape and murder of a 11-year-old girl in Panipat.
A 22-year-old girl was kidnapped and gangraped by unknown men in a moving SUV in Faridabad on Saturday evening.
In another shocking incident, a 50-year-old man was arrested on Monday for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Haryana’s Pinjore. The man allegedly inserted a wooden object in the girl’s private parts.
The rapes have jolted Haryana just days after the State Government basked in its most heartening sex ratio ever — 914 girls to 1,000 boys — and credited its “Beti Bachao, Beti Padao” campaign with the vast improvement.
