Various farmers’ bodies in Haryana has been gearing up for the ten-days ‘Kisan Avkash’ (farmers on leave) protest starting from June 1 when they won’t supply farm products such as vegetables, grains and milk to the cities.
The protest titled ‘Kisan Avkash’ (farmers on leave), under the banner of Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh will be held across the country to press for demands of loan waiver for farmers and implementation of Swaminathan Commission.
“Farmers would not go to the cities to sell their produce such as crops, vegetables and milk from June 1 to June 10. The protest will be held across the country and lakhs of farmers from Haryana would also participate in it,” said Gurnam Singh Chaduni, Haryana chief of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) while talking to The Pioneer.
He said that a nation-wide Bharat bandh would also be held on June 10 to raise the problems of farmers.
Chaduni said that the farmers of more than 6800 villages in Haryana will sit on dharnas in their respective villages and will not sell anything in the market for ten days.
“We have started a campaign in Haryana urging farmers to participate in the ten days protest and do not go to cities for selling anything. A meeting has been held to appoint people who would go to all villages to gather support from maximum number of farmers to hold the protest in Haryana in June,” he added
He further said that the farmers are left with no other option but to protest.
lashing out at the BJP led Central and Haryana Governments, Chaduni said that the government has failed to redress the grievances of farmers. In the past also, farmers have held protest but government has done nothing for the farming community, he added.
Shamsher Singh Dahiya, Haryana president of the BKU (Ambawata), another faction of Kisan Union said that the farmers under the BKU (Ambawata) faction will also participate in the protest ‘Kisan Avkash’.
The farmers are forced to resort to such protests as the Union Government has failed to address our problems, he added.
last year, various farmers’ outfit from Haryana had launched statewide agitation against the BJP Government in Haryana and at the Centre accusing it of retracting from its poll promises and ignoring the plight of farmers, who form a large voter base in the agrarian state.
Anger has been brewing among farmers against government’s decision of scraping Dadupur Nalvi irrigation project, non-implementation of Swaminathan report among other issues.
