In consonance with the decision of the Election Commission of India to track all pre-2006 electronic voting machines (EVMs) online through its newly-developed mobile application, the task of EVM tracking would be carried out in the districts of Haryana from August 1 to 10.
Haryana Chief Electoral Officer, Ankur Gupta on Tuesday said training in this regard had been imparted to the staff concerned.
The districts have 11,504 ballot units and 1,321 control units available with them, he said. Gupta said detailed discussion regarding the tracking process was conducted during a meeting held on Tuesday with representatives of national and state-recognised political parties.
He also urged the representatives of the political parties to depute their field functionaries to gain knowledge about EVM tracking systems-2017. Notably, the EC planned to replace all pre-2006 EVMs with the M3- a more sophisticated machine with built in self diagnostics, minimal chances of machine failure and an ability to clamp shut the moment any tampering effort is made.
