Due to rising air pollution in Delhi-NCR, Haryana Government on Tuesday directed the Deputy Commissioners to keep an eye on the incidents of stubble burning by increasing the number of flying squads and enforcement teams in their respective districts.

The directions were issued by Sumita Misra, Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department, during a meeting with the Deputy Commissioners  through video conferencing here.

She especially directed the Deputy Commissioners of Fatehabad and Sirsa to remain more vigilant in view of delayed harvesting of paddy in their districts.

As a result of continuous efforts being made by the Haryana Government for crop residue management, incidents of crop residue burning have come down in the state, she said while directing that wide publicity should be done through IEC activities to make farmers more and more aware about not burning stubble.

She also directed that rallies should be organized all over the state on November 18 and school children, youth, NSS and Yuva Kendras should be involved in this. Through these rallies, a strong message should be sent to the society that burning of crop residue is not only injurious to health, but it also diminishes the fertile strength of the soil, she added.

She said that wide publicity should also be done in the villages through mobile vans and a message should be sent to the farmers that they should not burn stubble.
