Haryana DGP updates Speaker Gian Chand Gupta on investigations into threat to legislators

Haryana Director General of Police PK Agrawal on Monday met the State Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gian Chand Gupta and updated him about the investigations into the threats to Congress MLAs of the state.

ADGP law and order Sandeep Khirwar, ADGP CID Alok Mittal and IG security Saurabh Singh were also present on the occasion.

During the meeting, Gupta asked the Police officers to ensure the additional security measures for the MLAs, especially those under threat. Besides this, the speaker also asked the top cops to ensure that those deployed in security are provided with the latest automatic weapons.

Gupta told the reporters that security of the legislators tops the priority of the government as well as the Vidhan Sabha secretariat.
"Threats to MLAs have emerged as the latest challenge of the democratic system. MLAs represent lakhs of population and are not ordinary persons. We shall do our best for their protection,’’ said Gian Chand Gupta.
It should be motioned here that earlier, former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda had raised the issue of MLAs being received death threats during two week’s time. These include BJP MLA Sanjay Singh (Sohna) also. Congress MLAs Renu Bala and Surendra Pawar have also been threatened by miscreants, he added. Moreover, State Home Minister Anil Vij on Sunday asked the STF to probe the cases registered into this.
