Taking cognisance of alleged lynching of Junaid Khan, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar on Wednesday directed the State police to maintain special vigil on such social and caste-based matters.
The Chief Minister, while chairing a meeting of Police Department here, also directed to ensure speedy investigation to nab the accused in the case and seek strict punishment for them.
The police have so far arrested five persons in connection with the killing of 17-year-old Junaid onboard the Delhi-Mathura passenger train between Ballabgarh and Mathura stations on June 22.
Junaid was stabbed to death while his brothers, Hashim and Sakir, were injured by a mob which also allegedly hurled slurs against them. His brothers said the attackers had taunted and repeatedly called them “anti-nationals” and “beef eaters”. The survivors of the attack said that the murderous mob had more than 15 people.
Two days back, Haryana Police had increased the reward for information about culprits involved in the alleged lynching of Junaid, from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.
Meanwhile, Haryana Police on Wednesday constituted a special state-level task force to tighten the noose on wanted criminals, including serial killers and those who indulge in organised crime, drug trafficking, extortion, contract killing and other such crimes. The chief officer of this task force will be Inspector General of Police (IGP)-level officer who would have his office in Gurugram.
The Chief Minister has also directed the State police to carry out special drive for nabbing the accused wanted for crimes such as snatching, theft, dacoity, extortion and kidnapping.
He has also asked to study the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act so that a similar Act may be enacted in Haryana.
