Haryana Congress demands special girdawari to assess wheat crop loss

Published on:

Haryana Congress has asked the State Government-led by Chief Minister Manohar lal, to immediately order an assessment or special girdawari of the losses caused to the crops, especially wheat, mustard, gram and tomato, by the strong winds accompanied by heavy rainfall and hailstones in several districts of Haryana and demanded compensation to farmers.

Kiran Choudhry, leader of the Haryana Congress legislature Party (ClP) said that according to reports received by her, the damage has been severe, especially in Tosham, Bhiwani, Badhra, Dadri and loharu and other areas of the state.

The ready-to–harvest wheat crop has been virtually flattened in many parts of the state. The extent and spread of the damage has put the farmers to great losses. Conservative estimates put the losses at not less than 50 per cent, said she.

The worst affected villages in Bhiwani include Tosham are Devrala, Hasan, Sahlewala, Sandhua and Alampur. In Badhra, Dwarka, Sham Kalan, Bhariwas, Umarawas, Kakroli, Jhoju Kalan, Gudana and Rudrol, to count a few. Besides, the adverse weather conditions have increased the chances of attack of yellow rust on wheat, stalk rot on mustard, and pod borer on gram crops. The farmers are worried over the prediction of rain and hailstorm persisting for the next few days, she added.

Choudhry demanded that the BJP Government should immediately come to rescue of the farmers, order a quick assessment of the losses and announce relief to the harried farmers.

It should not take six months as it did last time in announcing relief to the farmers despite repeated assurances given by the Chief Minister, added the Congress leader.
