Haryana Cong to revamp all district units

Keeping in view of the Assembly elections in Haryana in October this year, State Congress has decided to revamp all district Congress units of the State.

Haryana Congress president Ashok Tanwar has asked all the 31 district presidents (rural and urban) to submit their detailed reports on the basis of ‘self appraisal’ related to their performance in the recent lok Sabha elections for ten Parliamentary constituencies, at State Congress head office in Chandigarh before April 30. State Congress leadership had to take such a step after getting reports of poor performance by the district unit heads during the election campaign in Haryana. Even Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Minister himself had to warn some district units during his poll rathyatra in Haryana by asking them “to come on poll campaign for their party candidates or else they might have to face the consequences thereafter.”

Under these circumstances, now State leadership wants to compare the ‘self appraisal’ reports of all district presidents with reports they have prepared themselves to formulate the future course of action.

According to sources, there is little time left for the Assembly elections, which will probably be held in October so the State leadership would not expel any district Congress president. Rather they would prefer to interchange district presidents or their officer bearers for the time being. Moreover, State Congress had already expelled 19 senior or junior level Congress leaders from the party on the charge of indiscipline recently. The whole exercise would take place after the results of all 10 parliamentary seats on May 16.

Some Congress leaders, however criticised the move saying that this was like putting their own failure on the shoulders of others. A senior leader blamed former State Congress president Phool Chand Mullana and alleged that it was Mullana, who, instead of controlling the indiscipline in the party during his entire tenure, played an active role to promote groupism between Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Kumari Selja.

However, the seven district Congress presidents, to whom he (Mullana) had issued explanation notices for creating ruckus or indiscipline during his District Congress level meetings in Yamunanagar, Jind and Hisar before parliamentary elections, didn’t reply and they are very much in the party, the senior leader added.
