Haryana Cong met Governor to raise cow protection issue

Published on:

After extending support to Sant Gopal Das, who has been sitting on a hunger strike for the past 35 days seeking protection of cows, Haryana Congress leaders on Thursday met Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki seeking his intervention into the matter.

A Congress delegation led by party’s Haryana chief Ashok Tanwar met the Governor and requested him to issue directions to the BJP led State Government to accept demands of Sant Gopal Das and work for the protection of bovine species.

Tanwar, while talking to the mediapersons after the meeting said that the party leaders will join Sant Gopal Das on July 8 and will sit on hunger strike to press for his demands.

Gopal Das has been sitting on a hunger strike in Rohtak and has demanded the State Government to hand over ‘gauchar bhoomi’ (pasture land) in villages to develop gaushalas and grazing grounds for cattle.

Besides, Das has also demanded the government to set up a Gauchar Vikas Board on the pattern of the Gujarat Government.

Ashok Tanwar said that the party has requested the Governor to issue directions to Haryana Government in this regard so that Sant Gopal Das ends his hunger strike at the earliest.

Alleging that the State Government has not kept its promise of protecting cow, the Congress leader said that ‘gauchar bhoomi’ is being encroached upon and illegal activities are being carried out on the land meant for grazing.
