Haryana CM's convoy car kills pedestrian

A pedestrian was killed on Monday night after a vehicle in the convoy of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal  hit him on the national highway near Karnal. He was on his way to Delhi from Haryana’s capital Chandigarh when the accident took place.

The deceased has been identified as Satpal Kashyap (35), a resident of Takhana village, Nilokheri, in Karnal district. Two policemen including the driver of the vehicle were also injured in the incident.

Police said, “A police vehicle belonging to Haryana Chief Minister’s convoy ran over the pedestrian on the national highway near Karnal. After the incident, all the three injured were taken to a trauma centre in Karnal where the pedestrian succumbed to the injuries.

The CM stopped at a nearby rest-house following the accident and later proceeded to Delhi. The incident raises question as to why the administration is trying to keep the whole episode in closed envelope.

Talking to the mediapersons, the Chief Minister on Tuesday clarified saying “When the accident took place, we stopped the car and took the man in the same escort vehicle.”

“But he succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital. We could not use the ambulance (which was a part of the convoy) because it was far behind,” he added. Meanwhile, the victim’s brother, claimed that the Chief Minister had been indifferent to the matter. “The CM should have come to our place to express condolence on the grounds of humanity,” he said.
