Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal on Thursday directed the officers to start the work of India International Horticulture Market (IIHM) being developed at Ganaur within a period of one year so as to link the farmers directly to the markets and provide them more alternatives to sell their produce.

The Chief Minister was reviewing the progress of IIHM in a meeting of Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board held here. The market would be developed at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore. It would provide storage infrastructure offering a choice to growers for trading their produce that is fruits, vegetables, flowers, poultry and dairy products, at a future date at their convenience.

The Chief Minister directed the concerned officers to take advanced steps for dealing with the issues related to the National Highway Authority of India so as to find the best way to avoid any type of traffic congestion near IIHM in the future. There would be proper planning with regard to inflow and outflow of vehicles in the market as well as parking arrangements, he added.

It was informed in the meeting that IIHM, being developed on 537 acres of land, would operate on a Hub-and-Spoke model, wherein market would be Hub-linked to a number of commodity specific collection centres (Spokes), located at key production centres in the state. The markets would offer a one-stop solution, starting from facility for cleaning, refrigerator, processing, secondary processing, grading, packaging of fresh fruits and vegetables, horticulture and poultry produce.

Apart from these facilities, the market will also provide services of cool chains support and facility for storage including ware houses, cold storages, ripening chambers, and storage shade etc. The first phase of IIHM would be completed in one-and-a-half years. The Technical Advisor had already been appointed and consultant would be appointed within three months to expedite the work of the market.
