Haryana CM condemns Punjab Assembly resolution

Published on:

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal described the resolution passed by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Friday as gross violation of the orders of the Supreme Court and hoped that the Supreme Court would take a serious note of it.

Manohar lal was replying to the discussion on Governor’s address during the ongoing session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha here while referring to the resolution passed unanimously by Punjab Vidhan Sabha which said that they would not allow construction of Sutlej Yamuna link (SYl) Canal at any cost. The resolution also stated that neither there was ever any need to construct the SYl Canal nor it is today.

The Chief Minister said that as the Supreme Court has now given its verdict to maintain the status quo on the issue of Sutlej Yamuna link (SYl) Canal, the State Government would present its viewpoint in the Supreme Court along with resolution passed by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

launching a scathing attacking at SAD-BJP Government in Punjab, he said that it appeared that the SYl issue is now raised by Punjab aimed at gaining mileage during ensuing assembly elections in the state.

He went onto say that the move to pass a Bill to de-notify the famers land acquired for construction of SYl canal and then defying the SC directions could also be an excuse of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to leave the Government in the midst due to fear of upcoming assembly elections so that he might contest the elections on this issue.

As the Supreme Court hearing started, the nervousness of Punjab was revealed and they first passed a bill and then started filling up SYl canal, which is really unfortunate, said the Chief Minister.

Manohar lal assured the House that Haryana would do everything possible to get its share of Ravi-Beas waters through SYl canal.

He said that SYl canal is a life line for the farmers of Haryana and BJP has always been serious on this issue. We have met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi and apprized him about the issue.
