Small hydro projects on canals would be set up in Haryana and power generated by them would be supplied to local areas, announced Chief Minister Manohar lal on Sunday. While addressing a public rally at Tohana on Sunday, the Chief Minister said that help of the private sector will be sought in setting up such projects which would be encouraged.

He said that electricity wires would be changed at a cost of Rs3,000 crore. These would be changed on a priority basis in those villages which pay their pending electricity bills along with regular bills, to provide 16 to 24 hours of power supply.

The Chief Minister announced projects worth Rs100 crore for Tohana during the rally. He inspected the project to generate power from water at Baliawala Head in Tohana. The Government is making efforts to generate power by tapping more non-conventional sources so that the State could become self-reliant in electricity, he added.

The Chief Minister said that the youth of the State was worried because of the wrong policies pursued by the previous government which resorted to nepotism and carried out recruitment of employees from the back door, an issue the  High Court has taken cognizance of.

The BJP Government would respect the law, said he, adding that he had sympathies for the guest and computer teachers.

Referring to the youth, he said that better education would be provided to them followed by employment. About 50,000 posts lying vacant in the state would be filled in the near future, andrecruitment would be done on merit basis. About 5,000 constables would be recruited in the Police Department. Apart from this, 500 women police personnel and 1,000 retired soldiers would be recruited in police.

Criticising the previous Congress governments in the State, he said that the previous Governments had cheated the people by adopting caste based politics and regionalism. The former Chief Minister was doing false publicity about making Haryana number one, but the state ranks 11 in the country. “We will work hard with the support of the people, and the day is not far off when Haryana will actually be number one state in the country. During the last seven months, I have attended 100 programmes across the  state and come to know about the problems faced by the people, the Chief Minister said.

He also inaugurated Women’s IIT set up at the cost of Rs1 crore and laid the foundation stones of Tohana block stadium to set up at on 10 acres, sub-tehsil and BDPO office complex to be set up at the cost of Rs2.5 crore, and an overbridge over Bhakra Main Canal and Fatehabad distributaries to be set up at a cost of Rs4.5 crore.

On the farmers’ issues, Manohar lal said that the State Government would provide them other options besides farming. A detailed framework is being prepared so that they earn profit of Rs1 lakh on every acre of land. They would get seeds, fertilisers and organic manure. Since increasing population and reducing landholding posed a serious problem, efforts are being made to encourage the farmers to shift to micro and small industries. They would be imparted special training to enable them to make the switch, he added.
