Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar has congratulated Anita Kundu, Police Sub-Inspector from Hisar, for making history by becoming the first Indian woman to scale Mount Everest from the China side.

In a message issued here, the Chief Minister said, “I heartily congratulate Anita Kundu on her rare feat of doing a double of scaling the Mount Everest both from Nepal and China sides. She has done Haryana and the nation proud. I wish her success in her future endeavours.”

Her accomplishment is a tribute to her grit, determination and resolve, and shall continue to serve the younger generation as a source of inspiration, said Manohar lal, who is on a five days tour to Singapore and Hong Kong.

Anita, 29, was part of an eight-member expedition and only two of them made to the summit. She had started climbing the Everest from the China side on April 11.  This was her second attempt to climb the Everest from the China side after she had to return back midway two years ago due to bad weather.

It was on May 18, 2013 that Anita had climbed the highest mountain in the world from the Nepal side. After her achievement, congratulations poured in for the mountaineer on social media. Congress national spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, “Haryana’s daughter makes country proud once again by becoming first Indian to climb Everest from both China and Nepal side.”
