Haryana Bijli Nigam rectifies inflated bills, denies foul play

Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam limited (UHBVN) has rectified around 6800 bills through recently established special electricity bill counters in all its operation circles of the State.

Haryana Power Distribution Companies (UHBVN & DHBVN) have facilitated around 56 lakh consumers throughout the State by opening 246 special electricity counters with the purpose to resolve/rectify their inflated electricity bills, said Nitin Yadav, Managing Director UHBVN on Monday.

He said that the Discoms purchase power from generators and distribute it without earning any profit. The Nigams issue bills based on the tariff fixed by Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC). All the charges taken from the consumers are audited by the Auditor General and are monitored by the HERC As such the Discoms cannot charge anything beyond the tariff order. So, it is baseless to say that Discoms are demanding the higher amount from the consumers, said Yadav while responding to the allegations of the Opposition that power consumers in Haryana are forced to pay higher amount of bills.

In case there is any complaint of any consumer with billing due to clerical mistake or meter reading resulting to extraordinarily higher bill, it will be corrected within three days of lodging the complaint, he added.

A day before, Congress had slammed the Manohar lal Khattar led BJP Government in Haryana for raising power tariff. Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala had alleged that BJP Government in Haryana has hiked power tariff in a clandestine manner that has broken the backbone of all sections of society.

Hooda had also announced that the Congress party will stage a demonstration in Panchkula on October 7 in front of office of power utilities.

Reacting to the allegations, Amit Arya, Media Advisor to Chief Minister on Monday said that the rates of electricity and fuel surcharge are not decided by the State Government but these are fixed by the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC), which is a statutory body.
