Haryana Assembly witnessed noisy scenes and verbal duel between Congress and INlD legislators on Thursday forcing the Speaker Kanwar Pal Gujjar to adjourn the House ‘thrice’ and name the INlD MlAs for disrupting the House proceedings on Thursday.
The Speaker also ruled that the ‘named’ INlD legislators will not attend the House proceedings for today and should leave the House.
Raising the issue of Sutlej Yamuna link (SYl) canal, INlD legislators protested against Congress MlA Randeep Singh Surjewala for speaking in favor of neighboring Punjab on SYl issue while releasing Punjab Congress election manifesto last year.
Haryana MlA and Congress national spokesperson Randeep Surjewala came under fire from both BJP and INlD MlAs for accompanying the senior party leaders while releasing Punjab poll manifesto, which stated that Punjab’s water is for its people only.
However, the INlD MlAs vehemently protested against Surjewala, who had come to attend the House proceedings for the first time during the ongoing budget session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha.
launching a scathing attack on Surjewala, leader of opposition and INlD's senior leader Abhay Singh Chautala demanded to bring a resolution to condemn him for his anti-Haryana stand on SYl canal issue and to also send him out of the House.
While Surjewala stood up to give clarification on the issue, the INlD legislators did not let him speak and kept interrupting him.
Soon after, the INlD MlAs shouted slogans like 'SYl Virodhi Congress Murdabad', Haryana Virodhi ko Sadan se Bahar karo’.
After repeated pleas from the Speaker to the INlD legislators to remain seated, went unheeded, the Speaker announced to adjourn the House for 20 minutes at 11:10 am. later, the Deputy Speaker Santosh Yadav announced to adjourn the House for another half an hour.
When the House reconvened, the INlD MlAs remained adamant on their demand to send Congress legislator Surjewala out of the House.
INlD’s leader Abhay Chautala urged the Speaker to take the issue seriously as a State MlA has spoken against the interests of people of Haryana. Such people should not be allowed to sit in the House and should be thrown out of here, demanded Chautala.
The INlD members continued their sloganeering against Congress and Randeep Surjewala, and went onto to call them Haryana’s traitors.
After the never-ending logjam continued in the State Assembly due to ruckus created by the opposition legislators, the Speaker ‘named’ the INlD legislators present in the House for their ‘unruly behaviour’ and directed to send the MlAs out of the House.
The Speaker adjourned the House for 15 minutes immediately after his decision.
However, the INlD legislators refused to leave the House with their leader Abhay Chautala directing them to remain seated in the House.
Chautala alongwith his party MlAs did not leave the House for quite some time and was seen asking his legislators to raise slogans against the BJP as well as the Congress.
Angry INlD legislators then shouted slogans ‘SYl Virodhi Sarkar Murdabad’, 'SYl ke Virodi Murdabad’. Marshals were called in to take the legislators out of the House and they kept persuading Chautala and other INlD MlAs for several minutes to leave the House.
The legislators later moved out of the House amid sloganeering against the Congress and BJP.
INlD leader Abhay Chautala, while talking to the mediapersons later, alleged that the BJP and Congress are working together. Derogatory language has been used by BJP and Congress legislators in the Assembly but action has been taken only against the INlD MlAs who had raised the issue of SYl canal, he said.
Chautala added that the party MlAs will not return to the House if they are not given a chance to speak during the House proceedings.
