The Haryana Government has announced to give incentive money of Rs 21,000 and Rs 11,000 to those farmers, who will bag first and second place respectively in vegetable production in the State. Earlier, incentive money of Rs 5,100 and Rs 2,100 was given to farmers who secured first and second place in this area.
“The increased incentive will be given to farmers for their outstanding performance in vegetable production from next year,” said Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Minister OP Dhankar while addressing the farmers on the concluding day of three-day Expo Fest organized at Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for Vegetables, Gharaunda in Karnal. While addressing the farmers, Dhankar said that government is heading to double the area under vegetable production in the state. Presently, farming of fruits, vegetables and flowers is being carried out on 40,000 hectares, three lakh hectares and 8000 hectares of land respectively in the state. A centre of excellence for flowers is being established at a cost of Rs 15 crore in village Saundhi, Jhajjar so as to promote floriculture. This work would be completed in coming three years, said the Minister. He said that foreign companies of soft drinks like Coke and Pepsi are generating profit worth crores of rupees every year. If farmers could prepare such drinks by way of organic farming and sale their products in market, in that case, this money will set up a new dimension in the country's economic regeneration. Our farmers could do it easily, he added.
