Union Minister and SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Thursday maintained that the party would give preference to women candidates during ticket distribution for the 2017 Punjab Assembly polls.
“Women had emerged stronger in every field and the Akali Dal would give preference to women candidates during ticket distribution for the forthcoming Assembly elections,” said Harsimrat while interacting with the media persons on the side lines of a conference dedicated to Goddess Ganga organised by party’s Istri Wing (women wing).
She said that Istri Akali Dal would play a proactive role in the ensuing Punjab Vidhan Sabha election in 2017.
Akali party would take care that women get their due in the elections, she added.
She also urged the women folk to imbibe the ideology of ‘Nanhi Chhan’ and must become flag bearer in the crusade against social evils.
“For the creation of healthy society, the role of a woman is of paramount importance and it is high time that the womanhood must realize its importance in eradicating the social evils from the society,” said Harsimrat.
Harsimrat said that the Akali Government had initiated a number of schemes for the welfare of women in Punjab which include free education, distribution of bicycles and others.
Harsimrat informed that the Centre would soon roll out a cold storage scheme for Punjab and she personally wanted that a chain of cold stores was established in the state. Besides, Centre would also subsidize the cold store facility.
She added that the food parks being built up in ladhowal and Kapurthala would soon be commissioned. “A total of 42 Mega Food Parks are being set up in the country with the cost of Rs2,000 crore,” she said, adding that this activity would generate numerous employment opportunities in the country.
