Describing the graduated studen ts as “the future of New India”, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore on Monday urged them to pay back to the society in the form of new ideas and technologies “that you will develop to address the national and local issues using education and knowledge you have accumulated”.
Badnore, while delivering his address during the second annual convocation of Chandigarh University at Gharuan, advised the students to choose entrepreneurship rather than looking for jobs.
“India requires job providers rather than job seekers and with the government encouraging youth to come forward with new ideas, it is high time that universities in the country should prepare the next generation entrepreneurs for India,” he added. Badnore conferred degrees upon 746 graduate and post-graduate engineering students besides felicitating 15 University toppers with gold medals. He said that convocation marks an important day in the lives of students as it is a significant milestone in their journey. “It is a moment of pride for them as much as it is for their teachers, parents and those who have played a prominent role in shaping their lives,” he said.
Governor advised the University to create an endowment fund where alumni could contribute through money and other resources that can be utilized to provide new research opportunities to the next batch of the students. Varsity chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu said: “We are committed to churn out not only professionals for the industry but good human beings who can become asset for the society and can contribute richly with their experience and knowledge.”
