Guv nod to prosecute Dhumal: BJP to move court against order

A day after Governor Urmila Singh gave her nod to the prosecution of former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal in the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) irregularities case, BJP said that it will challenge the sanction given in the court.

“Post of Governor is a constitutional post and the decision of prosecution sanction against former Chief Minister and leader of Opposition can’t be taken in haste without considering the ramification or legal opinion and without going into the merit of the case,” said BJP spokesperson Ganesh Dutt, adding that the sanction is actually unconstitutional.

He added that party has decided to move the court against the prosecution sanction given by Governor.

“We are not undermining the authority of the Governor but the way sanction for prosecution was given without going into the merit of the case is questionable,” said Dutt.

The BJP leader said that when entire Cabinet takes a decision to lease out land to a sports institution which is working for the promotion of sports in the State, then only the Chief Minister of the period can’t be singled out for the decision because it’s a policy decision taken by the Government.

He alleged that investigating agencies were given orders to frame Dhumal and his son and for that reason even the basic procedures and laws were overlooked.

Dutt alleged those

officials who served during previous Government and are now retired, their post retirement benefits are being stopped by the Government for one reason or the other.

“If this kind of witch hunting continues, no officials would like to work with the Government and those who are serving the

current Government could also meet the same fate,” added Dutt.
