Actor-turned-politician Sunny Deol’s cool sojourn in Himachal Pradesh during the scorching summer heat has invited some not-so-cool “comments” from the people of his constituency, Gurdaspur, who are apparently waiting for the candidate’s homecoming.
In fact, many are now wondering if they have done anything wrong in electing the Bollywood’s “dhai kilo ka haath” by rejecting the Congress’ hand.
Sunny Deol, a political novice in his first ever election hustings, had won from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency against the matured and experienced politician Sunil Jakhar, who was the sitting Congress MP from the seat. Jakhar, who is also Punjab Congress president, lost to Sunny by over 80,000 votes.
After the high-octane elections were over, Sunny, it seems, is taking some time off, and enjoying the cool environs in the hills.
A day before, Sunny shared a video from his official Instagram account, captioning “Missing Freedom”, with the snow-capped mountains seen in his background. Sunny told the viewers that he was on “his way to Kaza” — a high-altitude place situated in Himachal’s Spiti Valley in the western Himalayas.
While Sunny’s fans have gone all gaga over his 20-second video clip congratulating for his first election victory, and also talking about his son Karan Deol’s upcoming movie, many others, especially hailing from Punjab and Gurdaspur in particular, are asking their parliamentarian to return “home”.
In their comments, the Gurdaspur voters are reminding him of “lot of works” pending in the constituency, while asking him to come back as “Gurdaspur is missing you”.
One user, taking a dig at Sunny, commented, “Prawa jdu election khtm hoye kde himachal tai kde kidr ja reha (Brother, ever since the elections are over, you are sometime going to Himachal or somewhere)”.
Another user, in an attempt to defend his “action hero” commented, “He is busy in Mumbai for his son and Delhi also. So hope will come soon! Punjab.”
Sunny’s rivals have all along been claiming, during the campaigning, that the Bollywood actor would never return to the constituency if he would win the elections. They were even targeting him as an “outsider”, having no knowledge of Punjab and its people.
However, Sunny managed to fight the “outsider” tag and win the elections from Gurdaspur — a constituency which had earlier sent Bollywood’s yesteryears’ superstar Vinod Khanna to the Parliament for four times.
Reminding Sunny of his responsibility as the elected representative, a user commented, “Pau hun edr gurdaspur aajo vele ho k yr...bde km pye (Please come back to Gurdaspur now after getting free...there’s lot of work to be done)”
Another user in reaction to his video clip, commented, “Gurdaspuriye dekhde hone hun munh chuk ke (People of Gurdaspur would now have been waiting)”.
One of the users, commenting on the video uploaded a day ago attracting 1.32 lakh views, repented electing Sunny against Jakhar. “galat jita diya veerey, sunil vadhiya si (Wrong choice, Sunil was better,” he wrote in comment.
