Amid the ongoing protest of guest teachers against Haryana Government, State Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma on Wednesday held the previous Congress Government responsible for the problems being faced by the guest teachers.Sharma while talking to mediapersons at Rohtak said that if the Congress Government had adopted proper method in their recruitment process then today guest teachers would not have faced this problem. He said that the Congress Government has played with the future of guest teachers and till now they are being targeted as prey to politics. Even after knowing the reality, the Congress and INlD parties are trying to grind their own axe in the cause of guest teachers, he alleged.
More than 15,000 guest teachers were appointed by the then Congress Government in 2005 to tackle the shortage of staff in Government schools. In 2014, the guest teachers sat on a dharna at Jantar Mantar, where the then Haryana BJP chief Ram Bilas Sharma had promised that BJP would regularise their services after coming to power. When asked about this, Sharma said that though the Court has given judgment against the guest teachers, the State Government is still considering the matter on the humanitarian ground.Keeping in view their interests, the State Government has constituted a committee of two officers namely RS Kharab and Ml Kaushik of Education Department who have been looking into this matter, said Sharma.
He added that the State Government would extend every possible help to guest teachers. The State Government has decided to give relaxation to guest teachers in the recruitment for advertised posts, he added.Notably, the guest teachers, who were issued termination letter by the State Government, are holding fast-unto-death since June 23 at Mahendergarh, the home district of Ram Bilas Sharma and have threatened to continue their agitation till their jobs are restored. Also, more than 15000 guest teachers under the banner of Haryana Guest Teachers’ Association (HGTA) are holding protests across the state to build pressure on BJP led Haryana Government to deliver on its poll promise of regularizing their services.
The leader of Haryana Congress legislative party Kiran Chaudhary had met the protesting guest teachers on Tuesday. The Manohar lal Khattar led BJP Government in Haryana has come under fire from all corners for failing to resolve the issue of guest teachers. The Sarv Jatiya Sarv Khap Mahapanchayat, a conglomerate of various khaps, which had met on Monday had served a one-week ultimatum to the State Government for accepting the demands of agitating guest teachers or face a statewide stir.
