Growing incidents of violence in Punjab not natural: BJP

Published on:

With the Opposition Congerss and Aam Aadmi Party hitting at the ruling alliance in Punjab on growing incidents of violence, the BJP too discussed the issue of law and order in its core committee meeting held in Chandigarh on Wednesday.

Expressing deep concern over the growing incidents of violence, the core committee has apprehended that the sudden burst in such cases does not seem to be natural, and there seems something fishy behind the incidents.

The concern shown by BJP gains significance in the wake of clarifications by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who, had stated that the crime graph in the State had gone down. Notably while Punjab Congress President Capt Amarinder Singh had pointed a finger at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for recent incidents of violence in the state, AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal’s visit to Sant Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale was being seen as a ploy to square up the government on the issue of law and order.

In the meeting, questions were also raised on the Deputy CMs policy of bringing foreign investment for giving a boost to industry in the state. Coming out vocally on the subject, Commerce and Industries Minister Madan Mohan Mittal raised voice against the policy and said that the local industry needed to be given the boost. He said that instead of visiting America or China, local entrepreneurs can better be put into play to give a fillip to the industrial production in the State.

The non-redressal of grievances of BJP workers by the SAD leaders was also discussed in detail. The core committee has desired to take up the issue with the senior SAD leaders at the earliest.

The program of visit of Senior BJP leaders to Punjab were also discussed in the meeting. As per the information, the program for May 27 and 31 has been finalized and 12 senior leaders including Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh,  Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, Minister of Food and Public Distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan and Union Cabinet Minister for Women & Child Development Menaka Gandhi will address party workers in different programmes.

According to the program, Ram Vilas Paswan, Giriraj Singh, and Bhupender Yadav will visit Amritsar on May 27, while Radha Mohan Singh, Babul Supriyo and Mahesh Giri will hold the stage in ludhiana.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will accompany Union State Minister Inderjeet Singh and Satpal Malik in Pathankot on May 31. On the same day, Menaka Gandhi, Mahesh Sharma and Shyam Jaju will address the party workers in Patiala.
