Punjab New and Renewable Energy Sources, Information and Public Relations Minister Aman Arora, on Wednesday, said that green energy is the only solution to meet future power requirements in an eco-friendly manner and the Government has continuously been working on several initiatives to find out sustainable sources of energy.

The cabinet minister presided over a brainstorming session, 'Bijli Mahotsav', jointly organised by the PSPCL and Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) at Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET), Longowal.

The minister said that the state government was committed to save the environment of Punjab by replacing the traditional sources of energy with green energy, adding that Punjab had led the nation in almost every sector and now it was the time to become a leader in green energy production.

He said PSPCL has provided sufficient power to the agricultural sector for the ongoing paddy season and there were no power cuts on the other sectors as well. Arora said that the paddy stubble which was being burnt by the farmers could also be used to produce power and several projects which would use crop residual for power production were also underway in the state to produce clean energy. He added that if the paddy stubble will be used in these plants, it would also help to stop the malpractice of crop residue burning in Punjab.
