Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said that all the Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police and the concerned officers have been directed to prepare a report together as to how many cases registered against the farmers could be withdrawn immediately.

“We are preparing a report on such cases. The cases which have gone to the court will be classified and work will be done to withdraw them back at different times,” said the Chief Minister while talking to the mediapersons here regarding the demands of farmers, who have ended over a year-long agitation.

While welcoming the decision of the farmers to end their agitation and return home, Khattar said that after the farmers' agitation ended, talks are going on with the farmers to withdraw the cases registered against them in the state.

During the agitation which began in November last year, the protesting farmers have been booked under sedition, attempt to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, criminal intimidation, damage to public property among other related charges in various districts of Haryana.

On the demand of providing compensation and a government job for families of those farmers who died during the protest, the Chief Minister said that the list of deceased people given by the farmers’ union during the farmers' movement will be verified by the Police Department.

Responding to a query regarding toll, he said that the toll booths which were closed due to the farmers' agitation will open soon and there will be no increase in the toll rate. Notably, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of 40 farmers' unions had on Thursday decided to suspend the over a year-long farmers' protest against the three contentious farm laws. Farmers, mainly from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh had started protesting at Delhi border points on November 26 last year against the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. The laws were recently repealed.
