Govt invites employees unions for talks

After HC directions, the State Government has invited the roadways employees’ union leaders to hold talks on November 12 over the contentious issue of hiring 700 private buses in the state.

The roadways unions had been protesting against the government’s decision of hiring 700 private buses while the Manohar Lal Khattar Government had ruled out to roll back its decision.

In the past, several rounds of talks between the government and unions leaders have failed to yield any positive result.

In a meeting with agitating employees last week, the State Government had offered to reconsider its decision on 190 private buses as the tenders for the same were yet to be finalised, but remained firm on hiring 510 private buses, saying it cannot be reworked as the Cabinet had already decided on this matter and signed an agreement to this effect.

Justifying move to introduce 700 private buses, the government has maintained that the Haryana Roadways at present has only 4,100 buses. Given the demand, the state needs 15,000 buses to cater to the population of over 2.5 crore.

As 15000 buses cannot be bought, the government will be hiring private buses, the government’s spokesperson had said.
