Punjab Government on Thursday issued strict instructions to all its departments to ensure that Government employees vacate the official accommodations within two months after transfer to another stations.
The State Government amended Punjab Government Houses (General Pool) Amendment Rules 1983 in March this year that mandates that any employee or officer, who does not vacate the accommodation within stipulated time, the employer would not draw his salary till he/she vacates the house and settles the rent for said unauthorised period.
An official spokesman said that the State Government has taken serious view of the fact that despite transfer to other stations, officials retain their official accommodation at old station illegally, blocking the allotment of that house to the eligible officers. He said that the delay in allotment to eligible employees has a direct bearing on their effective discharge of duties.
“Instructions have been issued to all heads of departments, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Sub Divisional Magistrates to effectively ensure the compliance of these instructions,” the spokesperson added.
