Govt dismisses Cong's 'crocodile tears' over land Acquisition Bill

Published on:

With controversy over the land Acquisition Bill brought by the Narendra Modi Government intensifying, Haryana Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu on Thursday dismissed the hue and cry kicked up by the Congress over the land Bill as “totally unwarranted”. The Minister described the opposition’s perceived concern for the farmers as nothing more than “crocodile tears.”

In a statement issued here on Thursday, he said, “The hue and cry raised by the opposition is totally unwarranted as it was the UPA Government at the Centre that had not only voted the Bill but also framed the rules after acting on some suggestions made by the previous Haryana Government, led Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

“The BJP’s Haryana Government led by Manohar lal, remains committed to protecting the interests of the farmers, and shall take all steps to benefit them, he added. A day before,  Haryana’s Khap Panchayats and farmers outfits had announced to gather about 1 lakh farmers on national highway-1 near Kurukshetra on March 5 to protest against the bill.

Haryana Congress has also asked the BJP-led NDA Government to withdraw the land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill, otherwise, a Statewide protest would be launched by the party.
