The director principal of Government Medical College and Hospital Sector-32 has written a letter to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan regarding the ruckus that ensued on June 23, the date allotted for counseling for MBBS admissions, after the number of allotted seats were reduced to 50 from 100 and has asked the Minister to enhance the number of seats.
Atul Sachdev, in his letter, a copy of which is with The Pioneer, has stated that GMCH-32 is a reputed medical college which has been rendering service to the patients of Northern region since 1991.
According to the letter, the Government of India increased the number of seats from 50 to 100 for the year 2013 on a one time basis. However, the Medical Council of India (MCI) did an inspection of the institute in April this year and later scraped 50 seats after citing minor issues, which have affected many aspiring MBBS students adversely.
Sachdev has mentioned in the letter that in view of 100 admissions made in 2013 provisional arrangements has been made by all departments for continued teaching and training of 100 MBBS students per year.
In addition to this, one block of the medical college (Block-E) is on advanced stage of completion and after its commissioning in short time, MCI’s minor issues pertaining to insufficient infrastructural deficiency will be solved. Citing this director principal has urged the Ministry to enhance the number of MBBS seats to 100 from 50, which if implemented will be joy for many able aspirants who have suffered the brunt of MCI’s decision.
