Ahead of the Assembly polls in the State, Chief Electoral Officer of Haryana, Shrikant Walgad and State icon of Haryana, Meghna Malik, on Saturday urged the girls to vote wisely in the Assembly elections and not under any pressure.
Both of them addressed girl students under a Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Programme organised at Government Colleges for girls.
TV actress Malik said that women should understand the importance of their vote, only then they could play an important role in formation of a model society and nation. Women should choose the better candidates and not cast their vote to a candidate of their parents’ and kin’s choice.
She also urged the students to bring with them three more voters on October 15. She said that we people only get one chance to cast our vote in five years, but it is sad that many women do not even come out of their home to exercise their right to vote. They should come out of their homes and cast their vote without any pressure thus ensuring their contribution in democracy, added Malik.
Walgad said that various programmes were being run in the State to increase polling during Assembly elections. He said that the voting percentage has increased even in recent lok Sabha elections which was 72 per cent and hoped that there would be more than 80 per cent polling in the Assembly elections.
