Published on:

The anxious wait of students got over as the Central Board of Secondary Education has declared the result of Class XII examination on Monday with total pass percentage standing at 82.48 per cent for the Panchkula region. Girls did better than boys yet again.

The results were declared across the country. In all 1,39,967 student appeared for the examination from the region of Panchkula comprising of the States of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh (UT).

According to the CBSE records for this region, 80,622 boys appeared for the examination, out of which 63,142 boys cleared it. In case of girls 59,345 appeared out of which 52,300 passed. The pass percentage of girls is 88.13 per cent whereas the boys lagged behind with only 78.32 per cent.

RJ Khanderao, Regional Director CBSE Panchkula Region said, “It is good to see that students from all over the region has performed well in their examinations and especially the girls have done well and have proved once again that given a chance they can outshine the boys.”

However, it is evident from the CBSE records that due to skewed sex ration in the region and lack of awareness among people about the education of a girl child the number of girls appearing for the examination is far less than the number of boys.

On the other hand, this year, the number of differently able students taking the examination in the region has increased as compared to last year. The Class 12 examination saw an increase of 15.59 per cent among boys and 15.39 per cent among girls registering for the examination in the differently-able category.

The total number of students appearing under this category was 1,783 for the year 2012 which saw a surge and stood at 2,418 in the year 2013 which clearly indicates that more and more differently able student are now taking the examination due to new friendly measures introduced by the board for them.

Khanderao said, “The board has made few changes in the examination structure to make the participation of this student easy. Also the competitive environment of today’s society has created awareness among these students who now demand equal opportunity in education and give their best when it comes to performance.”

This year Class 12 results are also going to play an important role in the life of engineering aspirants as weightage is given for the performance in the class 12 boards.

It is also noteworthy that boys from government aided and government schools are ruling the roost with a pass percentage of 83.33 per cent as compared to their private and independent counterparts registering a pass percentage of 78.51 per cent. In the case of girls it is a close call with Government aided and Government schools registering a pass percentage of 88.47 per cent, slightly lower than private schools with a pass percentage of 88.72 per cent.
