A 15 years old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour for over several months in Chandigarh. The incident came to light when the teenager finally mustered the courage to call the child helpline and register her complaint on Thursday.
After receiving the complaint, police reached the spot where the victim narrated her tale of horror and said that her parents are working with a private firm in the city and they come back from work late in the evening. Anand who is their neighbour in the same locality took advantage of the situation and used to forcefully enter the house in the afternoon and raped her for past few months.
Shikha (name changed), who is a student of Class X, studying in a private school in Chandigarh told the police that Anand had raped her several times in the last few months. However, she could not tell her parents as he threatened her with dire consequences. Shikha failing to take the torture any more called the child helpline number of Chandigarh police on Thursday and informed them about the incident.
Police took the victim to GMSH Sector-16 where doctors confirmed rape after medical examination. Anand, who is a native of Uttar Pradesh, was living in a rented accommodation with his friend at Sector-61. Anand is absconding after the police raid and he is yet to be traced. “A case has been registered, under section 376 of IPC and 5 of Protection of children from sexual abuse, against the accused Anand Kumar. Further investigations are under progress,” said Surjit Singh Malik, DSP UT Police.
