Punjab’s notorious gangster, Sukhwinder Singh alias lala, was shot dead near Dera Road in Batala on late Saturday night. He was wanted by the police in a number of criminal cases including murders.

Police said that lala was returning to his home in Batala with his two nephews in his SUV when the miscreants opened fire on him, who was driving, from close range and he was killed on the spot.

lala was taken to the Civil Hospital immediately where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Station House Officer (SHO), Civil lines, Yadwinder Singh reached at spot and started investigations.

Singh said that the police has registered a case against six gangsters identified as Golu Harpura, Arun Gujjarpura, Saraj alias Mintu, Perry, Mannu, and Pavitter Singh — believed to be the members of Bhoori gang who died a few years ago.

lala was recently facing a murder trial and lodged in Gurdaspur Central Jail and was on parole. He was arrested during an encounter with Ranger Nangal police in 2012.
