Gairsain session productive, decision on making it capital soon: Kaushik

The Winter Session of the Vidhan Sabha held recently in Gairsain was more productive than the previous Vidhan Sabha sessions held in Gairsain during the term of the Congress party. Further, the State Government will also take a decision soon after reaching consensus on the issue of making Gairsain the State Capital. Cabinet Minister and State Government spokesman Madan Kaushik said this while addressing the media here on Wednesday.

Responding to criticism leveled by the Congress at the Bharatiya Janata Party Government for limiting the Assembly session in Gairsain to two days, Kaushik said that the opposition members were not even well prepared for the assembly session. He said, “The opposition had ample time and opportunity to raise public interest issues during the session held recently in Gairsain. However, it was the BJP members who sought majority of the information during the session.

The opposition members were not prepared and did not do much when it came to raising public interest issues during the session.

In 2014, for the first session of the Vidhan Sabha held in Gairsain from June 9 to 11, an agenda had been passed for five days of the session.

However the session lasted two days, during which it functioned for about six hours fifty five minutes in total.

In the second session of the third Vidhan Sabha held in Gairsain during November 2015 the house proceedings lasted for about three hours three minutes. However, in the session recently held in Gairsain the house proceedings lasted 10 hours 10 minutes across two days during which all the business was completed. This session was more productive than previous sessions held in Gairsain.

While the Congress is questioning why the session was limited to two days, we were ready to extend it too but the opposition did not raise any such demand in the business advisory committee meeting.

Instead of criticising us, the Congress should have managed its members better to raise public interest issues in the assembly session,” said Kaushik.

Regarding the issue of declaring Gairsain the State capital, he said that the State Government will build consensus with stakeholders and take a decision on this subject in the near future.

The uncertainty regarding the status of Gairsain as the summer capital or permanent capital of the State will not continue for long now, he added.
